Know and Believe

Isaiah 7:1-9

I love pictures; especially of the people I love.  I enjoy looking at pictures of fun times with my family and friends and thinking back on the memories the picture represents.  Because of this, we have a lot of picture frames filled with memories.  Currently, we are renting so we cannot hang pictures on the walls.  All of the pictures that we have in our bedroom and living room use the stand that is built into the frame.  Sometimes if the frame is getting old or perhaps not made well, the stand will bend back too far and will not hold up the picture frame.  The stand for whatever reason has become weak and the picture will not stand.  Please look up Isaiah 7:1-9.

Sometimes our faith can be like the picture stand that is not firm; we know what promises God has declared and we even know who God says we are.  But somehow there has been a disconnect between what we know and what we believe deep down in our hearts.  Our faith requires more than just a head knowledge in order for us to stand firm; we need to believe what the Bible says about God and our relationship with Him.  Isaiah 7:9 says, "If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all."  We will get pushed over with the smallest wind that blows our way if we do not grow our roots deep and are firmly planted in God's love and promises.  Ephesians 6:12 says, "For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places."

Putting on the Armor of God will help us to stand firm when we find ourselves in a battle.  What does a battle look like?  I think it can be anything that causes a struggle for us.  It can be an oppression that is causing fear or anxiety or it could be a difficult relationship at work.  The battle could be feelings of inferiority or guilt, or we could be battling a time of great temptation.  Whatever the battle, we have armor that will help us to stand firm and continue standing firm even after the battle is over.

Are you standing firm so you will stand when facing the enemy?  Are you putting on the Armor of God?
