John 1:1-4; John 1:14; John 1:18
There are a lot of things that I just don't understand such as how great mathematicians were able to come up with equations and theorems that make sense and work consistently. I also do not understand how an airplane flies or how a bird flies, for that matter. I don't understand how a baby is born with the immediate instinct to cry when they need something. I don't understand how birds seem to know when it is time to fly south for the winter and come back north in the spring. Just because I don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't true - it just means that I don't either have the ability to understand or I don't have all the information for it to all make sense. Sometimes there are things in life that are a complete mystery, but we still know and accept it is true. Today's truth is a truth we accept with faith: Jesus is both God and man. How that works is a mystery to me, but I believe it because I know the Bible is true. Please look up John 1:1-4.
John lays out the first part of this truth when he wrote, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." In this passage it is established that the Word was God. Please look further in John at John 1:14. Verse 14 tells us that the Word became flesh, meaning the Word became man and He lived among us. We also read that He is God's Son and verse 18 tells us that the Son is God. Aside from all the other scriptures that point to Jesus being either God or man, John 1 tells us clearly that we know that Jesus is God and man.
To look a little more to see that John was referring to Jesus and to no one else, please look at Matthew 3:13-17. In this passage, we read that God referred to Jesus as His Son. We can believe that Jesus is both God and man because the Bible tells us. As you read through the New Testament in the Bible, you will find many references to Jesus being a man and references to Jesus being God. Paul wrote in Philippians 2:6-8 that Jesus humbled Himself when He became man.
We believe by faith that Jesus is God and man, but this is also a critical truth that we have as part of our protection. Because Jesus humbled Himself and became a man, He was able to die in our place and conquer death forever. When we put on the belt of truth (Ephesians 6:14) we are believing that Jesus is God and man.
No matter how difficult it may be to understand, do you believe that Jesus is God and man?
